Following my last blog I’ve decided to have my idea form around the idea of housewives playing a domestic role for hundreds of years. I want to study how this  role has been maintained or changed throughout the years. Is it still common to have housewives in this era like they used to be in the 20s 30s 40s Etc. Or has it totally been dialysed and extinct ? I’ve found some artists who represent this in their work
Jeanne dielman (1975)

A lonely widowed housewife does her daily chores, takes care of her apartment where she lives with her teenage son, and turns the occasional trick to make ends meet. However, something happens that changes her safe routine

A French film made in 1975, is a perfect example of the kind of person I want to portray in my performance portrait. Clips of her peeling potatoes for a long period of time in silence with a full face expression is the perfect example of what housewives used to endur on a daily basis.

Martha Rosler -Semiotics of the Kitchen (1975)

Semiotics of the Kitchen is a feminist parody video and performance piece released in 1975 by Martha Rosler. The video, which runs six minutes, is considered a critique of the commodified versions of traditional women’s roles in modern society

I love this peice of work because of the simplicity to it. A clearly home made video representing a tipical house wife . Martha is showing her association with each object with an action, she almost tells a story of what her day to day life maybe be like.
